Hi everyone,
Some of you might have noticed that these forums were down the last week - I am really sorry about the "outage" and want to explain what happened.
Our web host had a "critical" server meltdown, which meant every site was gone for a few days (including my access to email). Note that it isn't the first time these guys have done this - it's about the third in the past year or two. And, stupidly, these guys have all our sites on one server without a backup server for when these critical meltdowns occur. Gradually they got the sites back up, but many of them had problems (either errors, really old versions, and so on). This forum was one of the broken sites, so we contacted our host's support.
They said it was all fine. Even though the SQL errors appeared, and one browser showed the site in an endless loop. Then they didn't reply.
So we tried contacting support and their management again, who again said everything was fine at this domain. Obviously it wasn't, and our replies (and repeat inquiries) went unanswered for many days.
Finally, today, they noticed the site was in fact broken for now over a week (I guess they realized they couldn't just leave us without our sites we were paying for, that we wouldn't just give up) - and got things working again. So that's good, but needless to say we are GETTING RID OF THIS TERRIBLE HOST (finally), and have now signed up with RegisterFly hosting for the forums - which has a lot more HD space for the forums, a lot of bandwidth, dedicated servers, and will be very reliable. So that means there might be a bit of outage as the forums resolve when we switch it over - but I really think it'll be worth it.
Thanks for your patience, and I look forward to making this place much more stable for the future! Also, please let me know if you notice any changes or glitches here as a result of the mayhem.
Jen.
